William is from rural Colorado and was raised by a single mother below the poverty line. He began working at age 12 on local farms and ranches to support his family and became the first in his family to attend college at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, supported in part by Greenhouse.
He earned a degree in biochemistry in 2018, completed medical school at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 2022, and is now a resident physician in internal medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
