Dismantle barriers to ensure the right to learn, teach, and research is for all.
Sophia was born and raised in a Vietnamese immigrant household in Clayton County, Georgia, where grit and a drive for change were part of everyday life. Activism is central to her identity as a Southeast Asian poet and changemaker. She worked with the Georgia School Board Association’s Youth Advisory Council to advocate for more inclusive curricula and stronger media literacy education. Her creativity came through in a documentary she produced on Vietnamese nail salon workers affected by COVID-19, created through the Yale Women in Economics Program, to make sure marginalized voices are included in economic discussions. Sophia envisions a future where education, policy, and culture come together to build solidarity. By studying economics on the pre-law track, she hopes to challenge systems of power that overlook the people behind the data.
