Revolutionize healthcare by engineering affordable, accessible medical devices for under-resourced communities.
Sarah Hourani grew up straddling cultures, shaped by her Middle Eastern heritage and American upbringing, while navigating personal losses and gaps in global healthcare firsthand. Moved by her family’s health struggles and a sense of global inequity, she channeled her experiences into creating solutions that bridge medicine and technology, founding MediTech, a student-run club that designs assistive devices for students with disabilities. Her relentlessness shines through her self-taught coding sessions that led to an AI coach for her Mock Trial team, countless sticky notes of brainstorming, and her push to build inclusive spaces in engineering for girls like herself. Sarah envisions a future where humanitarian engineering is accessible, empathetic, and globally transformative. By studying computer science and biomedical engineering, she aims to design health innovations that center marginalized communities and rewrite the narrative of who gets to shape the future.
