Sana is a second-year medical student at Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University in Chicago. She is the first in her family to attend medical school and has always had a passion for serving others. While in high school, she mentored many students through volunteering to tutor. She attended Northside College Preparatory High School, a nationally recognized public school that she believes helped her realize how important serving others and giving back to the community is.
While a Greenhouse Scholar, Sana co-founded firstgenmedicine.com – a free online platform aimed at helping first-generation students understand all the necessary steps to becoming a successful premedical student and future medical student. Her hope for the website is that it will empower students who are high-achieving but may not know the ropes to applying to medical school find an access point. In her own words, “Greenhouse has molded me into a student who is unapologetic, ambitious, and always looking for a way to give back.”
Sana was able to go on a medical mission trip, apply to medical schools, start her website, and many other opportunities in her time as a Greenhouse Scholar. In the future, she hopes to become a Greenhouse Mentor and advocate for a program that she believes truly is all-encompassing.
