An exceptionally curious young man with a keen mind, compassion also comes naturally to Nahome, which extends to his passion for engineering: “I want to go beyond what I could do as one person by making products that improve the lives of people I would have no contact with otherwise. Though compassion and engineering are usually not associated with each other, they are essential to understanding me.”
Nahome’s parents sent him to an afterschool program for at-risk youth when he was young to help with his English. Once in high school, Nahome returned to the after school program as a volunteer, spending countless hours helping the students and teachers alike, on top of significant hours spent tutoring peers in chemistry. He graduates as Valedictorian of his high school, which, in his words, ‘just kind of happened’.
