As immigrants, Maria’s family stressed the importance of taking advantage of the opportunities available in the United States. At CU Boulder, Maria was an outstanding student of engineering and was active in many organizations, including the Multicultural Engineering Program and Women in Engineering. She was also the President of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers at CU. Maria gained significant insight into her field having earned internships with both Marathon Oil and Shell, and started a full-time position as an engineer with Shell. Maria holds herself accountable to being a leader among students underrepresented in engineering—including women and Hispanics—and aims to have a significant impact on her community through her work.
