Advance healthcare by bringing cultural humility and research to the heart of nursing.

Johnny grew up in a Vietnamese immigrant family where mental health was stigmatized, poverty was ever-present, and cultural pride was his refuge through tough times. Driven by his own experience with depression and the racism he faced in both school and athletics, he stepped into leadership roles; reviving his church’s lion dance team and launching mental health workshops to uplift both students and healthcare workers. He envisions a future where mental health, cultural identity, and equity intersect to shape a more inclusive healthcare system. By studying nursing, he aims to combine clinical care, research, and advocacy to empower marginalized communities and reimagine what healing looks like.
