Make freedom a norm for all.

James grew up in a close-knit family shaped by faith, service, and the constant push to rise above life’s challenges. After the loss of his grandmother, who had been his greatest source of support, James learned that strength comes not from carrying burdens alone, but from letting others in. At school, he pours this lesson into action by tutoring classmates after hours and mentoring younger students, building both academic skills and self-confidence. Outside the classroom, James partners with his church to support nearby neighborhoods by distributing care packages and school supplies, ensuring those in need feel seen and valued. During moments of deep personal grief and pressure, he stayed committed to growth, leaned on his support system, and embraced learning through connection. James envisions a future where every person, regardless of their background, has access to compassionate, culturally aware healthcare. By studying physical therapy, he will gain the tools to open community clinics that offer medical and mental health care to underserved Black and brown communities while mentoring others to follow in his footsteps.
