Jamal first gained motivation for his future when he transferred high schools. Despite being under-prepared from his earlier education, Jamal enrolled in Advanced Placement classes and will graduate in the top 5% of his class and the first in his family to attend college. In addition to his academic achievements, Jamal became a leader in his community as Student Body President, National Honor Society President, Captain of his track team, and organizer of community service initiatives. What makes Jamal truly amazing is that he balances all his scholastic and extra-curricular achievements with working as a Pharmacy technician at CVS to help support his family. Jamal says, “Having the opportunity to receive a better education has motivated me to give back to the community where I grew up. I can accomplish anything I put my mind to.” Ultimately, Jamal hopes to create an after school program to help students who struggle academically.
