Ever since Ashton was in fourth grade she dreamed of going to college. Knowing that her family would not be able to pay for the education she wanted, she worked non-stop in high school in order to get accepted to a great college and earn scholarship support. Ashton is now the first Greenhouse Scholar to receive an advanced degree after graduating in May 2011 with a Masters in Social Work from the University of Denver. While working towards her graduate degree, Ashton secured a competitive internship at Denver Children’s Hospital and continued to volunteer for Greenhouse Scholars. Ashton’s internship transitioned into a full-time job in Social Work at Denver Children’s Hospital. She also earned her BA in Communications from DU where she was on the leadership team for Campus Crusade for Christ and participated in community service at the Caring Hands Pregnancy Center. As an undergraduate, she had the life-changing opportunity to study abroad in Chile and improve her Spanish-speaking skills.
